East German Junction

$250.00

A snapshot of 1990’s East Germany in the timeworn 900-year-old town of Wernigerode.

The Trabant car, fondly known as the “Trabi” and less fondly known as “a spark plug with a roof” awaits the passing of a steam train at an unrestricted level crossing. The notoriously unreliable ‘Trabi’, made of a hard plastic similar to Bakelite, in tandem with the coal-powered train, and the poorly maintained road, evoke nostalgia while simultaneously symbolizing the stagnant economy of the former Eastern Bloc.
